Temporary relaxation of working hours for student visa holders Due to exceptional circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure the supply of critical services, the Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force will take a flexible approach to student visa holders working beyond their usual work limitations, but only in specified industries. New partner visa requirements The new rules will only apply to new application and are expected to commence in November 2021 Both applicants and sponsors will need to meet (functional) English requirements. English requirements for visa applicants required for stage 2 (permanent visa) only. English requirements for sponsors to be met before sponsorship can be approved. Sponsors will be subject to character requirements. Partner visa application cannot be lodged without an approved sponsorship.
